Berto of Legado del Fantasma has earned the right to challenge for the WWE Speed Championship after winning a number one contender’s tournament. On a new episode of WWE Speed that premiered today, Berto defeated Noam Dar in the tournament final, setting up a title match against the current champion, El Grande Americano (Chad Gable).
The tournament final was an evenly contested bout that utilized the show’s three-minute time limit to create a sense of urgency. Berto secured the victory over Dar after connecting with a flying kick followed by a sit-out powerbomb for the pinfall, with 26 seconds remaining on the clock.
In a post-match promo, Berto immediately set his sights on the champion, continuing the ongoing feud between WWE’s luchadors and Chad Gable’s masked persona. Berto called El Grande Americano a “disgrace to lucha culture” and declared he will prove next week that Americano is “nothing.”

The championship match is now set to air on X (formerly Twitter) at noon Eastern time next Wednesday. This will be the first title defense for El Grande Americano since he won the WWE Speed Championship from Dragon Lee.
The victory continues a successful period for Legado del Fantasma. At the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event last weekend, the trio of Santos Escobar, Angel, and Berto was victorious against the Lucha Libre AAA team of Psycho Clown, Pagano, and El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. in a trios match.
Berto will have another opportunity to win gold this coming Sunday. He and his tag team partner Angel are scheduled to compete in Mexico for the AAA Tag Team titles at the Triplemania Regia event. They will be part of a four-way tag team match where champions Sanson & Forastero defend against them, Psycho Clown & Pagano, and the team of Nic & Ryan Nemeth.
