New trademark filing could indicate a name change for a featured WWE Raw star

A recent trademark filing could be the start of a name change for a featured performer on the Monday Night Raw roster.

On Monday, December 6, 2021, WWE filed for a trademark to the name for Piper Niven, who is currently known as Doudrop.

She used the Piper Niven name when she wrestled under the NXT UK brand but it was decided to rename her when she was brought up to Raw as part of a storyline with Eva Marie. The idea at the time was that the name was Marie’s idea as a way to mock her. Marie is no longer with the company and Doudrop is now a heel so perhaps, someone in the company figured it would be better to drop the Doudrop monicker.

Prior to her WWE signing in 2019, she wrestled on the UK independent scene as Viper.

The trademark filing is for the following:

“Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely, blogs, in the field of sports entertainment”
