Samoa Joe’s time as a color commentator on WWE Monday Night Raw has come to an end.
The angle where Seth Rollins and AOP attacked Joe at the end of the show was meant to transition Joe back to being an in-ring competitor since he has been cleared to return to action after being out with a broken thumb.
Dave Meltzer noted in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE will have a new announcer to take over the seat that has been occupied for the last few weeks by Joe.
Don’t expect Dio Maddin to return to that seat because he is currently training at the Performance Center in Orlando. He was written off in November after being attacked by Brock Lesnar. The story behind that is that Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunne were not a fan of his commentary work. It all worked out for Maddin since he still had aspirations to continue with his wrestling career.
There’s no word on who will be filling in for Joe/Maddin’s set beginning next week but you can bet on Vic Joseph and Jerry “The King” Lawler being there. They have gotten high marks from people in management. Lawler’s work, in particular, has been praised because he has done a lot to help Joseph get comfortable in his new role on Raw since the WWE Draft.
