WWE considered a big mixed tag team match for WrestleMania 37

Since Edge went away to get surgery to fix a torn triceps, it’s been reported that WWE had planned for him to resume his feud with Randy Orton.

The belief is that Edge will be back on WWE television in the first quarter of 2021 with the idea of him being ready to work a match against the former WWE Champion at WrestleMania 37. Perhaps, he could be back earlier than that.

On Monday, WrestleVotes reported that there have been discussions about Edge wrestling “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt instead of Orton at WrestleMania 37.

The account sent out an update on this by noting that the initial idea came from WWE looking for opponents to take on Wyatt and Alexa Bliss.

WWE did talk about doing a tag team match that would’ve seen Edge team up with his wife and fellow WWE Hall of Famer, Beth Phoenix. However, both the singles and tag team matches are not likely as WWE favors doing Orton vs. Edge as originally planned.

“Further: source states the initial idea came up as names were thrown around as possible opponents for a Wyatt & Bliss team at Mania. Edge & Beth Phoenix were mentioned. Source states both matches are “unlikely”. Orton vs Edge remains the plan as of now.”

As noted, although the event is expected to take place in the last week of March, WWE has talked about moving the date of the show.
