News on original WWE Raw plans for The Viking Raiders that were scrapped last Monday

I noted earlier that there was a change made to the Tag Team Turmoil match last Monday night on Raw. It was largely a Paul Heyman show but Vince McMahon still has his fingerprints on a lot of things.

Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that The Viking Raiders were supposed to have a squash match on Raw but that match was scrapped. Instead, they were moved into the Tag Team Turmoil match and they did a Double DQ finish with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. That is an indication that they want to keep both teams strong by not having them getting pinned.

Although WWE named Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff as the Executive Directors for their respective brands and McMahon told investors that he didn’t want to be “in the weeds” anymore, it is clear that McMahon has no plans to step aside because his fingerprints are all over the main roster shows. It’s been a common occurrence in recent weeks for him to rip up the SmackDown script and rewrite the show just hours before they go on the air and in some cases he will write the second hour of the show during the first hour.

There’s a lot of speculation that McMahon will get involved with NXT if ratings don’t beat AEW on TNT. Click here for news on WWE’s plan to hire more writers for NXT.
