During the weeks leading up to Survivor Series, it was believed that Bill Goldberg had signed a “one-off” deal and that Brock Lesnar’s plans for WrestleMania were already mapped out. There were hints dropped as to what WWE had in mind for Lesnar at Mania and on Tuesday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Lesnar was originally scheduled to face Shane McMahon. That has obviously changed and the current plan for WrestleMania is for Lesnar vs. Goldberg III.
When asked by Bryan Alvarez if Braun Strowman was ever scheduled to face Lesnar, Meltzer noted that Strowman was never in the plans for a match with Lesnar. He also noted that there were people pushing for Shane but Vince McMahon overruled everybody and there were politics involved. There were also people not in favor of Lesnar losing to Goldberg the way he did at Survivor Series but Vince also signed off on the finish of that match.
If you remember, Lesnar hit Shane with the F5 at the end of SummerSlam and that was supposed to be the beginning of their feud that would have ended at Mania in Orlando.
