With the coronavirus outbreak in the United States causing WWE to make changes to its schedule for all events including NXT, a new report has surfaced that indicates what the next move is for the NXT brand.
The NXT TakeOver: Tampa Bay event was scheduled to take place on April 4, 2020 from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. However, it was postponed due to the virus.
Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated reported on Tuesday the planned matches that were expected to take place at this show will now air over the month of April on episodes of NXT on the USA Network.
This will start on the April 1st episode of the yellow and black brand. It was noted that the announcement is expected to be made by Triple H on Wednesday’s episode of NXT.
As we noted earlier on the site, WWE held a series of TV tapings on Sunday from Full Sail University to tape content for the next few weeks of NXT television. It’s likely that some of these TakeOver matches were taped during that session.
Prior to the postponed announcement of the event, only one match was confirmed for TakeOver which was the ladder match to determine the number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship. Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, and Tegan Nox had already secured a spot in the match.
WWE was also building up to the Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano match, NXT Champion Adam Cole defending his title against Velveteen Dream, and NXT North American Champion Keith Lee making a title defense.
