Nia Jax Details Legit Fight With Charlotte Flair: ‘It Got Hot And We Just Started Swinging’

Nia Jax has opened up about the infamous incident during her August 2021 match against Charlotte Flair on WWE Raw. The match is remembered for a sequence where the two competitors appeared to stop working together and began exchanging legitimate strikes.

Speaking on a new episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Jax confirmed that tempers flared during the contest. She described the situation as a miscommunication that escalated quickly, leading to a physical altercation in the ring where she felt compelled to strike Flair.

“My match with Charlotte, where we kind of got into a little tiff, a little back and forth there. It was a miscommunication. I will say I’m going to call it a miscommunication,” Jax said. “Things got heated, legit got heated in that match. And I did warn her a few times to stop, to chill out. And she didn’t. And so then I two-pieced her.”

The Aftermath

Jax noted that the crowd’s reaction was palpable, as the arena went silent during the exchange. She recalled being so angry that she blocked out everything except the commentary team, specifically hearing Corey Graves’ voice amidst the silence.

“We came back and once we were calm and we were level-headed, we all kind of were just like, ‘All right, got kind of out of hand.’ But sometimes it happens. But yeah, it just got a little out of hand. It got hot and we just started swinging,” she explained. “But it was definitely, everybody was like, ‘What just happened?’ Even the crowd, because when it happened in the moment, I couldn’t hear anything because I was angry. I was legit pissed. So I didn’t hear anything. But then when I felt the dead silence of the crowd, I think the crowd was kind of like, ‘Is this really happening?’ And I could hear Corey Graves. Commentary is the only thing I could hear because that crowd was dead silent, because I think they were kind of in shock, like, ‘What just happened?’ So, yeah, it was definitely a moment. So that was a match [where] I’m like, ‘Oh.’ But then we were able to redeem ourselves after that.”

Despite the heat in the moment, Jax confirmed that she and Flair are on good terms now. Looking ahead, Jax also mentioned that she has her sights set on a future “hoss match” with Raquel Rodriguez.
