SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis released a video statement inviting AJ Styles to appear on Friday Night SmackDown. The message was posted to WWE’s social media platforms ahead of Styles’ scheduled match at the Royal Rumble.
In the video, Aldis addressed Styles directly, referencing their history and Styles’ tenure with the SmackDown brand.
“Before he puts his career on the line at the Royal Rumble, I’d like to take this chance to formally invite ‘The Phenomenal’ AJ Styles to SmackDown this week,” Aldis said. “I would love to have a chat with an old friend. After all, SmackDown is the house that AJ Styles built. My door is always open, AJ”.
Royal Rumble Match Details
Styles is currently scheduled to face Gunther at the Royal Rumble on January 31, 2026. The match carries a “Career Threatening” stipulation. If Styles loses, he will be forced to retire from in-ring competition.

- Undisputed WWE Championship: Drew McIntyre will defend the title against the winner of a #1 Contender’s Tournament. The challenger will be determined in a Fatal Four-Way match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24, 2026. The participants are Randy Orton, Trick Williams, Damian Priest, and Sami Zayn.
- Men’s Royal Rumble Match: Confirmed participants include Cody Rhodes, Gunther, Jey Uso, Rey Mysterio, Dragon Lee, and Penta.
- Women’s Royal Rumble Match: Confirmed participants include Iyo Sky, Rhea Ripley, Roxanne Perez, Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Bayley, Lyra Valkyria, and Asuka.
