WWE SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis has issued a public invitation to the suspended Drew McIntyre, calling on him to appear on tonight’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown to discuss his future.
In a video statement released today, Aldis revealed that he has been “working tirelessly” to reinstate McIntyre following his indefinite suspension last month. However, the General Manager noted that communication has completely broken down, with McIntyre refusing to return calls, emails, or text messages.
“He’s left me no choice but to use this platform to address him directly,” Aldis said. “Drew, consider this an official invitation to come here tonight so that we can discuss a resolution together to bring you back to SmackDown.”
McIntyre has been “suspended” since the November 7 episode of SmackDown. His suspension stems from a chaotic main event between Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Aleister Black.
During the bout, an enraged McIntyre interfered, attacking Rhodes and delivering a Claymore Kick to referee Dan Engler. The attack on the official was the final straw for Aldis, who suspended the “Scottish Warrior” indefinitely immediately following the incident. Since then, McIntyre has remained isolated, fueling speculation about his status with the brand.
Tonight’s episode will also serve as a dedicated celebration of John Cena’s historic career. The tribute comes just 24 hours before Cena wrestles the final match of his career. He is set to face Gunther—who won the “Last Time Is Now” tournament to earn the spot—tomorrow night at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C..
