Nick Dinsmore (aka former WWE star Eugene) was interviewed by Chris Jericho on the latest “Talk Is Jericho” podcast.
Dinsmore talked about his WWE run, what it was like to travel with William Regal, pinning Vince McMahon, being the acting General Manager of Monday Night Raw, getting his WrestleMania moment in Los Angeles, the inspiration for the Eugene character and how he pitched it to Vince.
He also talked about his early days in OVW with Danny Davis and Jim Cornette and Danny Davis, what it was like being in developmental with John Cena, Dave Bautista, Randy Orton, and Brock Lesnar. He also talked about being a coach at the Performance Center for a few years and he explained why he was released in 2009.
Dinsmore talks about why he got released from WWE in 2007 before he was brought back for a brief run in 2009:
“I failed a drug test. I had a prescription a long time ago. It was a prescription medicine and when I went to get the prescription, the doctor had killed himself and Walgreens said they didn’t keep records past a year. So, I had no documentation.”
Chris Jericho said, “Brian Gewirtz took three or four months of RAW to write a script and the whole script was about you. Tell us about that.”
Dinsmore said, “One of the reasons that Eugene did so well was because Brian Gewirtz wrote for me and he liked it. He took time off and wrote this big script. He came to me and said, ‘We are going to make a movie and put you in a movie.’ He told me of all these capers that are going to go on about Eugene trying to get into the wrestling business. At one point, we are going to have you wrestle a bear. We will put somebody in a suit.’ The movie didn’t work out and they put Big Show in that role, in Knucklehead. Everything I’ve seen was what they told me was going to be in the movie.”
