With the recent announcement of WWE star Roman Reigns’ current health issues, its sparked a conversation about some serious issues within the professional wrestling community. The now-former Universal Champion announced on Monday that he is battling leukemia and will be taking a leave of absence from WWE to focus on his health. There has been a huge outpour of support for Reigns from the professional wrestling community on Twitter.
However, now fans and talents are discussing the issue of health insurance in professional wrestling. Most professional wrestlers are considered independent contractors and don’t receive health insurance from their respective promotions/companies. This is very similar to what mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters go through in the UFC and other promotions.
One fan recently commented on the matter, saying that they believe professional wrestlers should receive health insurance from the promotions they work for. Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks responded to the fan, agreeing with his statement:
I agree. https://t.co/TtPbvES6eD
