WWE President Nick Khan confirmed the long-running story that he appeared on the game show Wheel of Fortune early in his life, revealing that his winnings were essential in funding the start of his law career. During a recent appearance on “What’s Your Story? With Steph McMahon,” Khan detailed how a $16,500 prize allowed him to pursue his dream of becoming an attorney.
Khan explained that after years of working full-time through his undergraduate studies and law school, he knew he needed to take time off from his job to properly study for the bar exam.
“I knew that to study for the bar and pass the bar, I couldn’t work full-time, study, and pass. I had to take two months off just to study,” Khan said. “I had to pass it the first time. I didn’t have the financial means to take it the second time, or to wait on being a lawyer like a lot of other folks.”
Faced with this financial challenge, he decided to try his luck with the popular game show. “I sent in a postcard to Wheel of Fortune. Again, late 90s, early 2000s. I get a letter in the mail, ‘hey, come for an audition,'” he recounted. He described the audition process on the Sony lot in Los Angeles, where he was one of a thousand people trying out, the vast majority of whom were much older and struggled with the game.
He was ultimately selected for the show, where his puzzle-solving skills paid off significantly. “I won $16,500. And when your bank account goes from zero to 16 five, I’m like, ‘I’m never gonna have to work again. I’m rich. Now this is over. Drinks are on me,'” he joked. “But I paid for the Bar Review course, I passed the bar and… and the rest is history.”
