WWE President Nick Khan recently addressed the controversial Netflix docuseries “Mr. McMahon,” particularly the challenging final episode, during an interview on The Bill Simmons Podcast. The docuseries, chronicling the career of former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, gained significant notoriety upon release due largely to its timing coinciding with serious allegations against McMahon detailed in a lawsuit by former employee Janel Grant, which led to McMahon’s resignation from WWE and its parent company, TKO Group Holdings.
Khan acknowledged the difficult nature of the series’ conclusion, stating, “Well, look, episodes one through five, it was all fine, and then Episode Six obviously had a lot of tawdry allegations in there.”
He emphasized that WWE was contractually unable to prevent the documentary’s release, as the deal with Netflix was finalized before Khan joined the company full-time. “So, you know, the most important thing at the company was, hey, this is not for us to spike it. That’s not what the deal was,” Khan explained. “The deal that was struck with Netflix was prior to me joining WWE on a full time basis.”
Khan described his role during the documentary’s release as managing the internal reaction within WWE. “So it was sort of trying to help everyone stay calm, who was watching it,” he said, expressing hope that the company has moved past the immediate fallout: “and hey, we’ll get through this thing and get to the other side of it, which hopefully, now we are.”
