The surprise return of AJ Lee to WWE has the wrestling world buzzing, and one of her most iconic rivals, Nikki Bella, is hoping for an on-screen “moment” with the returning star. In a new interview, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that she and AJ had a “great” conversation backstage at a recent WWE event and that she believes the fans would love to see their storied rivalry acknowledged on television.
Nikki Bella and AJ Lee were two of the cornerstones of the WWE Divas division in the early 2010s, and their feud over the Divas Championship produced some of the most memorable moments of that era. With both women now back in the company, the possibility of them sharing the screen once again has become a hot topic among fans.
On her SiriusXM podcast, The Nikki & Brie Show, Nikki shared the details of her recent backstage reunion with AJ. She explained that the two reminisced about their shared history and that she is eager to create a new moment for the fans.
“AJ’s back, and so she and I were chatting for a bit backstage, and we both were just saying, you know, how crazy it is, but she was like, ‘I just love that you’re here, why I’m back,’ and I’m like, ‘No, I’m so happy you’re back,’ and I’m like, ‘We both look so good. Us Latinas.’ It was great talking to her. It just took me back. When she and I were chatting, it took me back to back in the day.”
With both of their careers having taken such different paths in the years since they last shared a ring, a potential on-screen interaction between the two former champions would be a major moment. Nikki is hopeful that WWE’s creative team will find a way to make it happen, as she believes it would be a fun and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
“I actually hope we get a moment because when you think about it, everyone’s talking about it on the internet and it is true. I mean, we were so much of each other’s most important stories at that time with the Divas Championship before she had left and even with you and Paige, it was so much about us, and so the fact that we both are there. We have to have a moment. I feel even this Monday, we should have a moment backstage, but in who we are as characters, but I know obviously they’re focused with that, but I’m hoping at some point we have that interaction because I know the fans would love it and it would be fun.”
