NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa denounces open challenges for WWE titles

Last night, WWE Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins took to Twitter and revealed that he would be offering an open challenge for his Intercontinental Championship on Monday Night Raw tonight. This was just after Rollins’ victory over Dean Ambrose inside a Steel Cage at WWE Starrcade in Ohio:

“Time to refocus heading towards Ambrose and . I learn the most by testing myself…so the Open Challenge returns tomorrow night on . It’s go time.”

Open challenges for WWE titles have been somewhat of a regularity in recent years. Rollins has done it with the Intercontinental Championship, John Cena famously did it with the United States Championship, Roman Reigns has done so before as well, however, it looks like one man who isn’t a fan of open challenges is NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa.

Ciampa took to Twitter to react to Rollins’ open challenge declaration, saying he will never offer such a “participation award” with his NXT Title on the line. If you want a shot at “Blackheart,” you’re going to have to earn it:

“Cena had the US Title Open Challenge. Rollins has the IC Title Open Challenge. CIAMPA does not, nor will he ever, offer an NXT Title Open Challenge. My NXT Title is the most coveted Title in sports entertainment. You want a shot at The Champ, earn it.
