NXT invasion on WWE SmackDown almost didn’t happen, police escorted talent as the show was happening

There’s an interesting bit of news coming out of this week’s episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown.

John Pollock is reporting that the NXT charter did not land in Buffalo, NY until 7:55 pm, just before they went on the air on the USA Network. That might explain why they had the extended Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman segment with the long match clips from Crown Jewel.

Pollock added that NXT talent had a police escort to the building and one person said that the NXT invasion part of the show was close to not happening. Wrestlers made it backstage just in time for NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler to run out and attack SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley.

Pollock said on Twitter: “Was told the NXT charter didn’t land until 7:55 pm and they had a police escort to get them to the building. One person I spoke with added they could not have cut it any closer to get everyone in place for the third segment when Shayna Baszler made her appearance.”

WWE dodged a major bullet and in the process, delivered one of their best TV shows of the year. Many are calling it one of the best episodes of SmackDown in years.
