The NXT show in San Jose drew over 5,000 fans on Friday night. I don't doubt for one second that this will end up being a yearly tradition during WrestleMania week. As noted earlier, WWE Hall of Famer was sitting in the front row with his wife Jan.
The fans were pretty much into everything on the show.
Here are the results of what went down:
- JoJo sang the national anthem to kick things off.
- Corey Graves came down to talk to the crowd but his mic didn't work at first so the crowd chanted "you f**ed up" but it wasn't malicious. Graves joked about it and said that he's new at this gig. He told a story about the humble beginnings of NXT with guys like Bray Wyatt and The Shield coming from NXT. He talked about the thosands of tickets sold for the event. The crowd began chanting "NXT" and gave a great reaction.
Hideo Itami vs. Tyler Breeze
Itami won with the GTS. The crowd popped big time for this since it's been teased for a while but he would never be able to hit the move. He had been using the move for years before WWE. I'm glad they're letting him use it and now it can be his move and not CM Punk's move anymore since he is out of wrestling. I think Hideo has finally found his confidence and has looked great these last couple of days.
Jason Jordan vs Bull Dempsey
Jordan won the match. The crowd didn't seem to know who Jordan was. Jordan won with the exploder.
Bayley and Alexa Bliss vs. Dana Brooke and Becky Lynch
Bayley and Alexa won when Bayley got the pin on Brooke after the Bayley to belly suplex. The crowd gave all of them a great reaction and the finish got a great reaction as well. Bayley was interviewed afterwards and said that it's the coolest night of her life.
Solomon Crowe vs. Kalisto
Crowe won when he made Kalisto tap out to the Strech Muffler. Crowe dyed his hair red. There was a nice false finish when Kalisto hit the 450 splash but Crowe kicked out.
Baron Corbin vs. Rhyno
Rhyno was a surprise to the crowd and he got ECW chants. Rhyno went for the gore but Corbin caught him with his finisher and pinned him. The crowd was really into Rhyno so it was good that they let him gore Corbin after the match.
Corey Graves came out and said he had a surprise. Triple H came out to a massive pop. He was live streaming through the Periscope app. I can't remember the last time i've seen a crowd this hyped up. It feels like ECW. Fans also chanted "thank you Hunter." He said "no, thank you." Triple H mentioned that there are a bunch of main roster stars in the back sitting and watching the show. Triple H also said that Shawn Michaels, Seth Rollins, Cesaro, Stephanie McMahon, XPac, and Vince McMahon were all backstage. He also pointed out Jim Ross sitting front row. That got a massive reaction from the crowd and they chanted "JR, JR". That was awesome.
NXT Tag Team Champions Murphy and Blake vs. The Vaudevillains vs. Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady
Enzo and Colin did their pre-match mic work and were over huge with the crowd. Carmella was at ringside. The match ended when Carmella got on the apron to distract Murphy and she was knocked off to the floor when Colin sent Murphy into the ropes. Colin went to check on her and was rolled up by Murphy so Murphy and Blake retain.
NXT Women's Champion Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte.
Both women received amazing reactions from the crowd. There were "this is wrestling" chants from the crowd and both women put on an awesome performance. The Divas/Women's division is going to change the face of WWE because these women can go. I know there are women on the main roster that can go and hopefully this is the year where they break those doors down. There were back and forth chants from the crowd and there were tons of impressive and sick looking moves. There was a spot where Charlotte's hair extensions were ripped which pissed her off. Tons of false finishes and a figure four by Charlotte but Charlotte would eventually make it to the ropes. Banks hit the backstabber and locked her in a submission move. More near falls and Banks finally got the win with the Banks statement. Fantastic match. Standing ovation for both women and "thank you Charlotte" chants as she left the ring.
Sami Zayn comes to the ring and cuts a promo. He's in street clothes. Very loud "ole ole ole" chants for him. He said that he had to go home to clear his head and that medical issues came up but they're not too serious but he is not able to wrestle tonight because he is not medically cleared yet. He said he wanted to come out to talk about how important this show is tonight and how there used to be a dirty word called "developmental." He said things have changed and developmental used to be a place where people wasted away and hoped to someday be called up to the main roster. He talked about his 2 out of 3 falls match with Cesaro from two years ago and he could have waited and kept things the same as they always were but they could have kicked the doorw down and work to make NXT what it is now. He said that 5,000 fans sold this place out in an hour.
Kevin Owens came out on the stage and said how cute it is to hear Zayn and hear the fans eat up what he's saying. He said that Zayn thinks he did this and believes it's all about Sami Zayn. Loud "what" chants from the crowd. Owens said that HE sold out the Ohio shows and HE sold out the San Jose show and this is all due to his work. Sami then replied and said that Zayn tore the house down and has been doing so for two years. He said there would be no Owens on WWE TV without Sami Zayn. They both teased like they were going to fight but Sami said that Owens had surgery two weeks ago but said that he is coming to get his belt when Owens is better. Great stuff.
Finn Balor vs. Adrian Neville
Balor came out with the body paint. Just when the match was about to start there was a loud "Better than Mania" chant. I wonder what Vince was thinking when he heard that. They have to put on a helluva show to follow this. Another awesome match and great main event. Balor won with the double stomp off the top rope.
