Dave Meltzer said NXT’s Kendal Grey is going to be the best women’s wrestler the United States has ever produced and that she is already better than Mercedes MonĂ© was at the same stage of her career.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer made the statement after watching Grey’s match against Lola Vice on NXT, which ended in a disputed finish and led to a triple threat match being announced for NXT Stand and Deliver that also includes champion Jacy Jayne.
“She’s gonna be the best woman wrestler this country has ever produced,” Meltzer said. “She’s way better than Mercedes was at the same stage. I’m not saying she’s going to be the biggest star, but in the ring, who’s even at her level of wrestling in the past, present or future? There’s nobody.”
Meltzer said the match featured great amateur wrestling and amateur MMA transitions from both women and praised Grey’s level of ability given how early she is in her career.
Co-host Bryan Alvarez also praised the match and said both women had great transitions throughout. He noted that Grey did a Northern Lights suplex out of a guillotine choke to create the disputed finish that set up the triple threat at Stand and Deliver.
Grey is a former three-time NAIA champion from Life University and was a finalist for USA Wrestling’s Women’s Wrestler of the Year Award in 2023. She signed with WWE as part of the NIL program in January 2023 and has been developing on the NXT brand, where she won the Iron Survivor Challenge at NXT Deadline 2025 and became the longest-reigning Evolve Women’s Champion. She is currently one half of WrenQCC alongside Wren Sinclair.
NXT Stand and Deliver takes place Saturday, April 4 at The Factory in Chesterfield, Missouri.
On the same episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer also reported that the Gunther vs. Seth Rollins match at WrestleMania was not a unanimous creative decision and was only finalized weeks ago after the Bronson Reed injury opened up a spot. Meltzer said Bron Breakker has been cleared but WWE did not want to do the Rollins program with only two weeks of build because they see it as a potentially really big program down the line.
Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez will be in Las Vegas during WrestleMania 42 weekend for the Wrestling Observer 2026 Convention. The event includes live tapings of both Wrestling Observer Radio and The Bryan and Vinny Show on Friday, April 17 at The Circa Las Vegas starting at 10 AM local time, followed by a meet and greet with Meltzer, Alvarez, and Big Vinny V.
