NXT Takeover: Toronto results – Nakamura vs. Joe, James vs. Asuka

Welcome to the WWE NXT Takeover: Toronto pre-show, and we are live on the WWE Network. Charly Cariaso, Lita, and Mauro Ranallo were on the panel. We see Bobby Roode, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, TM 61, and Samoa Joe. A video package for the Mickie James – Asuka match.

We kick the main show off with a video package hyping all of the matches on the card. A choir sings “Glorious” for Bobby Roode’s entrance.

Singles Match: Bobby Roode vs. Tye Dillinger.

They lock up and Dillinger tossed him to the floor. Back in the ring, Dillinger landed 10 punches in the corner. Roode kicked him and tossed him to the floor. Roode threw him into the barricade. Roode tossed him into the ring and hit an elbow drop. Roode worked him over in the corner with kicks. Moments later, Dillinger fought back but Roode cut him off with a neck breaker. The backside apron fell off and the fans chanted for WWE to fix the apron. Dillinger fought back with a series of kicks and a clothesline. Dillinger went for the Tie Breaker but Roode rolled out of the ring. Dillinger tossed him back in the ring and went for his finisher but Roode hit a spinebuster for 2. Roode hit a suplex off the top rope for 2. Roode rolled him up but he tried to use the ropes and the referee saw it. Dillinger rolled him up for 2. Dillinger hit a super kick for 2. Dillinger hit a series of moves, Roode blocked and went for a DDT but Dillinger reversed and locked in the Sharpshooter. Roode got out of it and Dillinger missed a body splash. Roode sent him shoulder first into the ring post and hit a DDT for the win.

Winner: Roode.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals: TM-61 vs. The Authors of Pain – Paul Ellering will be in a cage that is hanging above the ring.

Akam and Miller started things off. Akam landed a series of kicks and Rezar was tagged in. Miller sent him to the floor and hit an outside dive. Throne took out Akam. Rezar knocked Throne down and then carried him up a steel structure holding the cage up. Throne knocked Rezar down and hit a swanton bomb off it onto the AOP. Back in the ring, Rezar dumped Throne on his head. Moments later, Miller got the hot tag and hit a series a moves to Akam. Miller hit an outside to him. Throne took out Miller and Akam with a dive. Ellering dropped a chain into the ring and Rezar grabbed it. Rezar tried to hit Throne with it but missed and Throne rolled him up for 2. Rezar with a spinebuster. AOP hit “The Last Chapter” for the win. After the match, Triple H and NXT GM William Regal walked down to the ring to pose for photos with the tag team team.

NXT Tag Team Title 2-Out-Of-3 Falls Match: The Revival © vs. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa

Gargano and Dawson exchange roll ups to begin the match. Dawson with a shoulder block. Ciampa was tagged in. Ciampa and Gargano hit a double team move to Dawson for 2. Dash was tagged in but Gargano hit a series of moves that forced him to tag Dawson. Gargano took both men down and hit a neck breaker to Dawson. Dash was tagged in and hit their finisher to Gargano for the first fall.

First Fall: The Revival. 

Gargano rolled up Dash for 2. Dash knocked him down and tagged in Dawson, who hit a series of kicks. Dawson hit a suplex for 2. The Revival cut off the ring and beatdown Gargano. Typical tag team wrestling. Gargano knocked Dash down but Dawson attacked him from behind. Gargano hit a kick to Dawson and a DDT to Dash. Ciampa got the hot tag but the referee didn’t see it. The Revival beating down Gargano in the corner. The Revival hit the Heart Attack to Gargano for 2. Dash went for a reverse suplex but Gargano reversed and hti a crossbody. Dawson got the hot tag and so did Ciampa, who hit a drop kick off the top rope. Ciampa with a knee strike then a back elbow followed by a series of clotheslines. Ciampa with a leg drop for a near fall. Ciampa sent Dash to the floor and then a series of German suplexes to Dawson for a near fall. Ciampa with a crossbody to Dawson.  Gargano and Ciampa hit a double superkick for the second fall.

Second Fall: Gargano and Ciampa.

Ciampa hit a DDT to Dawson and tagged in Gargano. Dash took out ciampa. Gargano hit a knee strike for 2. The Revival hit a double team uppercut/german suplex to Gargano for a near fall as Ciampa broke it up. Dawson was tagged in and mocked Gargano and hit an uppercut. Gargano fought back with strikes. Gargano rolled up Dawson for 2. Ciampa clotheslines Dash. Dawson grabbed the title and Gargano kicked it out of his hands. Dawson locked in the ankle lock but Gargano got to the bottom rope. Dash accidentally superkicked Dawson and Gargano and Ciampa hit their finisher for the near fall as Dawson made the save. Dash was tagged in and took out the legs of Gargano. Gargano rolled up Dash for 2. They exchanged roll ups and Gargano locked in his submission hold as Ciampa locked in his on Dawson for the win.

Winners: Gargano and Ciampa – new Tag Team Champions.

NXT Women’s Title Match: Asuka © vs. Mickie James

They lock up to begin the match and have a test of strength. James locked in a headlock but Asuka fought out and hit a shoulder block. James tripped her but Asuka grabbed her and worked over her left arm. Asuka locked in a head scissors lock but James fought out. Asuka sent James to the floor and James hit a hurricanrana. James with a kick but Asuka caught it and hit a german suplex. James beat a count of ten and got back in the ring. Asuka beat her down with strikes from mount. Asuka went for a back strike but James moved. Asuka with a series of kicks to James. James told her to bring it on. James moved and locked in a half boston crab and then the Muta Lock but asuka got to the bottom rope to break the hold. James and Asuka exchanged right hands. James with a big slap and that fired up Asuka. James with a neck breaker and then a series of right hands. Asuka missed a springboard crossbody then a face plant. James went to the top rope and hit a dive for 2. James went for a DDT but Asuka locked in an armbar but James got to the bottom rope. James with a back kick for 2. James covered her again but only got 2. Asuka locked in the Chicken Wing Submission for the win.

Winner: Asuka

NXT Title Match: Shinsuke Nakamura © vs. Samoa Joe.

Nakamura unloads on Joe with kicks to start the match. Nakamura followed up with strikes and knees. Joe clinches with him and lands some of his own. Nakamura knocked him down and hit a knee strike. Joe rolled to the floor and Nakamura followed him. Joe with a series of chops. Nakamura hit a big boot sending Joe over the barricade. Nakamura then sent him back over the barricade and to ringside. Joe caught him with a kick and then an enziguri. Nakamura countered with a knee strike and then several more. Joe caught him and hit a powerslam. Joe drove Nakamura down knee first. Joe locked in a knee bar and then landed some kicks. Joe sent him to the floor and then hit an outside dive. Joe tossed him to the floor. Nakamura fought back with a series of kicks and then a knee strike to the gut of Joe. Joe with a big boot and a back senton for a near fall. Joe with a powerbomb for 2 and then a boston crab. Nakamura with a knee strike but Joe hit a powerslam for 2. Nakamura with a head kick then a running knee strike. Nakamura with a flying knee strike off the middle rope. Nakamura with a combo of kicks and strikes. Nakamura with a german suplex. Nakamura missed a flying knee and Joe took out the left knee of Nakamura. Joe went for the Muscle Buster but Nakamura blocked it and hit the running knee for a near fall. Joe reversed a move and locked in the sleeper. Joe hit a german suplex then the dragon suplex and then another suplex for 2. Joe was bleeding from his forehead. Joe missed a right hand and Nakamura hit the Kinsahi and Joe rolled to the floor. Joe with a low kick and then a suplex onto the steel steps. Joe hit the Muscle Buster for the win.

Winner: Joe.

Joe celebrates in the ring to close the show.
