One of WWE’s TV partners has suggested a point tournament system to help boost ratings

As WWE gets ready to go back on the road with fans back at shows, the pressure is mounting to get the ratings up for Raw and SmackDown.

There has been talk of more themed shows with King of the Ring apparently returning soon and Raw Roulette likely returning later this year. The networks apparently want WWE to try some new things to entice people check out their TV shows.

Andrew Zarian from the Mat Men Pro Wrestling podcast is reporting that he’s heard that a point tournament system was pitched to WWE by one of the networks.

Basically, the idea is that competitors would get points based on things that happen in matches and the winner of the tournament would get a title shot. Zarian said that it was pitched that points would be earned based on special moves, wins, and stipulations.

That doesn’t sound like something Vince McMahon would go for but he may have to give in to at least some ideas.

The Raw reunion show in January was done because it was suggested to them by the USA Network. It seems like there is more pressure than ever to appease the networks. As noted earlier, USA Network is very unhappy about FOX getting the Hell in a Cell match on SmackDown tonight.
