On his Mic Check podcast, Ken Anderson shared some hilarious behind-the-scenes stories about his friend and WWE Hall of Famer, Booker T, including a perfect impression of the six-time world champion. Anderson recounted the origins of Booker T’s commentary career and a memorable story of him going off on a fan on an airplane.
The conversation began when a listener asked about the infamous backstage fight between Booker T and Batista. While Anderson wasn’t there for the fight itself, he did a spot-on impression of Booker T’s reaction the next week at television.
“I got to TV the next week, and I come up to Booker in the hallway, and I was like, ‘Hey, man, you okay?'” Anderson recalled, before launching into his impression of Booker’s response: “‘Man, I whooped that motherf—er… I always, never did like that motherf—er.'”
He also shared a story that he believes perfectly encapsulates Booker T’s no-nonsense personality. “We were flying somewhere… overseas, and Booker is in the front in the business class with, like, where you get the beds that lay out,” he began. “And Booker’s, like, f—ing laid out. He’s got the eye mask on, curled up. And somebody went up to him, ‘Excuse me, excuse me. Are you Booker T?’… [Booker] just went off on this guy.”
Anderson also revealed that Booker T’s legendary commentary career actually began years before he ever sat at an official announce desk, during the downtime at WWE house shows. “We would always, when we were on house shows, there would be just one camera… a TV in the back with a bunch of chairs… set up as a monitor so that you could sit and watch the matches,” he explained. “And Booker would sit there and do commentary… ‘This guy’s going to come to the ring… the fans are going to go nuts.’ ‘What?’ ‘No.’ ‘Oh, these guys, they’re lost. They don’t know what they’re doing right now.’ …something would get messed up and go, ‘They modified it.'”
