Original idea for recently announced WWE WrestleMania match

On Monday’s episode of Raw, WWE confirmed a Tag Team Turmoil Match for the first night of WrestleMania 37.

This bout will see Carmella & Billie Kay vs. Lana & Naomi vs. Dana Brooke & Mandy Rose vs. Ruby Riott & Liv Morgan vs. Natalya & Tamina battle it out with the winners getting the right to challenge WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax for the straps on the second night.

It turns out, the original idea before this match was decided on was to do an idea that WWE went with for WrestleMania 15 in 1999 where there would be a battle royal. The final two wrestlers in the battle royal would then become a team and challenge for the Tag Team Titles.

At WrestleMania 15, Test and D’lo Brown were the final two but fell short when challenging Owen Hart and Jeff Jarett for the Tag Team Titles.

Original idea prior to the Women’s Tag Team Turmoil match being decided on was to have the annual Women’s Battle Royal where the final 2 would be “winners” & form a tag team the next night. Much like the WM 15 Battle Royal that Test & D’Lo won, then lost later to Owen & Jarrett.

WWE holds the WrestleMania 37 pay-per-view event on Saturday, April 10th, and Sunday, April 11, 2021 from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, which will air on Peacock.
