Planned Outcome Remained Unchanged
The match between the two heels was part of the tournament to determine the final opponent for John Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. According to Bryan Alvarez, Solo Sikoa was always scheduled to win the quarterfinal bout, which is why the tournament bracket was not altered. Alvarez stated that “Solo Sikoa was scheduled to beat Penta, so nothing changed in the tournament,” confirming that the injury did not lead to an unscheduled win.
The Injury And Match Stoppage
Penta suffered the injury early into the match, approximately four minutes into the contest. Once it was clear that an injury had taken place, announcer Wade Barrett quickly threw to a commercial break while Joe Tessitore received information about the stoppage. The match was originally scheduled to run for around twelve minutes before the unfortunate early ending.
Semifinals Set For The Last Time Is Now Tournament
With his victory, Solo Sikoa now advances to the semifinal round of the tournament. His next opponent will be GUNTHER. The other two quarterfinal matches in the tournament were set to air on the following Friday’s SmackDown. These matches include Jey Uso against Rusev, and LA Knight facing a mystery competitor. The ultimate winner of the tournament will go on to face John Cena in his final match on December 13.
