News of what WWE had originally planned for former WWE Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch at this year’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view event has surfaced.
As noted, Lynch announced that she was pregnant with her first child with Seth Rollins this past Monday night on Raw. This is also where she vacated the title and awarded it to Asuka, who won the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match at the event last Sunday.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “for the Raw after WrestleMania, which was actually taped before WrestleMania, meaning before she knew she was pregnant” her promo on the show focused on a rematch with Shayna Baszler, who lost to Lynch at WrestleMania 36, to keep the program alive.
It was brought up how Nia Jax also made her return to in-ring action on this Raw and was pushed as a monster at the same time with the idea of her being a title contender.
Fast forward to the new tapings done after WrestleMania, WWE had Baszler and Jax qualify for the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match and Lynch wasn’t at the taping.
Meltzer wrote that due to these booking decisions, it “would indicate it being the early part of April when she told the company, and they kept it under wraps for about a month. Money in the Bank was taped on 4/15 so it’s very clear they knew before then.”
Meltzer noted how the original plans for Lynch at Money in the Bank were for her to wrestle and successfully retain the title against Nia Jax. Also, Baszler was originally booked to win the ladder match in order to be Lynch’s main rival for the title.
