Original plans for the main event of Monday’s WWE Raw

WWE made changes to the format of the Tag Team Turmoil Match that aired this past Monday on Raw.

Pwinsider.com reports the matches were originally planned to be the main event of the show as those matches would get a lot of TV time. However, WWE officials decided to go in a different direction. Tag Team Turmoil kicked off the show and then carried into the main event with minor changes made.

The match started with The New Day defeating The Viking Raiders before the former tag team champions went on to beat Jinder Mahal & Veer, Lucha House Party, and T-Bar & Mace. The match was stopped once T-Bar and Mace attacked Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods in addition to Mustafa Ali and Mansoor.

WWE later restarted the match later in the show with MVP and WWE Champion Bobby Lashley being added. The second half of the tournament saw The New Day eliminate Ali and Mansoor only to fall short to AJ Styles and Omos.

Lashley and MVP beat Styles and Omos to become the new #1 contenders in the division. WWE has already confirmed that Randy Orton and Riddle will defend the Tag Team Titles against MVP and Lashley on next week’s episode of Raw.

This match is being done to further build the upcoming WWE Title match between Lashley and Orton at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on September 26 from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
