A new report has revealed the original creative plan for Seth Rollins and his Money in the Bank contract at this weekend’s SummerSlam premium live event. The plan involved a shocking cash-in following the World Heavyweight Championship match.
Original Plans Was For A Post-Match Cash-In
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plan was for Seth Rollins to cash in his Money in the Bank contract immediately after the conclusion of the World Heavyweight Championship match between GUNTHER and CM Punk. The report notes that this plan was still in place as of one week after Rollins’ injury angle at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
A ‘Great’ Storyline, But Will It Happen?
Meltzer noted that a storyline where “Punk finally winning the title and then Rollins cashing in after making everyone think his knee was blown out is actually a great one.” However, he also stated that it is unknown if WWE will continue in that direction, especially since the company is very focused on surprises and some fans are now aware of the possibility. This adds another layer of intrigue to the ongoing mystery of whether Rollins’ injury is legitimate or a work.
The World Heavyweight Championship match between the champion, GUNTHER, and the challenger, CM Punk, is scheduled to take place on Night One of SummerSlam this Saturday, August 2nd. Whether Seth Rollins makes his presence felt remains one of the biggest questions heading into the weekend.
