ESPN’s Ariel Helwani had the opportunity to get a rare interview this week for his podcast and YouTube channel.
During the interview, Heyman had a lot to say about Daniel Cormier possibly stepping into the ring with Roman Reigns.
Heyman said, “As for Roman Reigns, look at Roman Reigns at the very highest echelon of WWE. There is no one even in his stratosphere right now. Daniel Cormier couldn’t get a job in WWE as a freaking commentator and now is resigned to eating Popeye’s chicken from his den doing podcasts on Monday with a guy who won’t even work exclusively with him because on Thursday’s he works with Chael Sonnen. Come on. I love Daniel Cormier. I think he’s the second greatest heavyweight in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championships, maybe the third in the history of MMA behind Brock Lesnar and Fedor. But let’s be real about Daniel Cormier…agianst Roman Reigns? Come on. It’s not in the Octagon, in a WWE ring? 1-2-3 or tap tap tap.”
The interview closed out with some MMA talk. Heyman said he is a big fan of Israel Adesanya and Jorge Masvidal and said that he loves to watch the Diaz Brothers, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor and Amanda Nunez. He says she is perhaps the best pound-for-pound fighter in MMA.
On Ronda Rousey, he doesn’t know what her future is but he hopes she will compete again. He called her the “disruptor of the status quo” and the person that “defines the trajectory of” whatever she is doing in wrestling or MMA.
When asked about CM Punk, Heyman said he has no idea what he will do and Helwani might know more about Punk than him.
