Paul Walter Hauser: WWE Is Butchering John Cena’s Retirement Tour

On a recent episode of TMZ Inside The Ring, actor and wrestling personality Paul Walter Hauser offered his creative take on John Cena’s ongoing retirement tour. The MLW executive producer said he wished the tour included a broader mix of opponents, blending past rivalries with opportunities to elevate new stars.

“It’s their book. It’s TKO. Man, I think it’s TKO. They’re butchering it. Some people think that TKO is the one that is calling the shots, like executives that are making and pulling the strings, like Triple H is not the one officially making the decisions for who his opponents will be.”

He continued, “I think it would have been nice if John Cena’s farewell tour included a great mesh of prior opponents that have known him 20 years, and future stars who could use the rub,” Hauser stated.

He then listed several of Cena’s legendary rivals that he would have personally liked to see him face one last time. “I would have loved to have seen Cena fight people like The Miz. I think The Miz is better than people give him credit for… but I would have loved to see Cena fight Jericho, The Miz, Sheamus, Triple H,” he said.

Hauser also addressed Cena’s recent lopsided loss to Brock Lesnar, suggesting that the only way such a booking decision makes sense is if it leads to a final victory for Cena in his last-ever match. “Brock, win and beat Brock… If his last match is Brock and he’s like, ‘I have to beat this guy.’ Oh my God,” he said, laying out the potential redemption story.

John Cena’s retirement tour is set to conclude in December 2025. He is currently scheduled to face another of his rivals, AJ Styles, at the upcoming Crown Jewel premium live event in Perth, Australia.
