CM Punk shocked fans and wrestlers on Monday when he showed up to the WWE Raw event in Chicago, where he spoke with several wrestlers, cleared the air with The Miz, and briefly spoke with Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
This comes several weeks before Punk is expected to make his AEW television return on the June 17 premiere episode of AEW Collison.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez noted a lot of people in WWE and AEW were surprised. There are also people in WWE that believe he was testing the waters.
Meltzer: “Apparently, he flew from Florida to Chicago on a flight with a lot of the talent. He talked to Paul Levesque. That was the main guy he talked to. People were very surprised on both ends.”
Bryan Alvarez: “People were surprised in WWE.”
Meltzer: “Very surprised in WWE.”
Bryan Alvarez: “People were surprised in AEW.”
Meltzer: “The feeling in WWE was that he was there because he wanted back. Whether that’s true or not, I have no idea. There were talks of him going back, shortly… late last year, but he couldn’t go because he was still under contract. My impression is this is with Paul Levesque in charge and not Vince. My impression was that they didn’t have any interest in him at that time,” Meltzer stated.
