People In WWE Were Upset With Original Elimination Chamber Ad Being Removed In Favor Of The Rock

The Rock caused a lot of chatter about his return to television a week ago on WWE SmackDown. In a promo, he stated his desire to elevate Cody Rhodes and transform him into the Undisputed WWE Champion that he sees fit. He declared his intention to take a piece of Rhodes’ soul but would wait to get the answer until the Elimination Chamber on March 1st.

Fans’ overall impression is that the angle didn’t make a lot of sense. The creative team reportedly found out about the appearances hours before The Rock announced.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that some were upset about The Rock’s Elimination Chamber ad replacing the original promotional material.

Meltzer wrote, “There were several people upset internally this week when the main Chamber ad took everyone off the ad and it was replaced with a new ad with only the photo of Dwayne Johnson.”
