CJ Perry Explains Why AJ Lee’s WWE Return Caused Backstage Competition

Speaking on TMZ Inside The Ring, CJ Perry reacted to the return of former Divas Champion AJ Lee to WWE, noting that while she was personally happy about the moment, it likely caused competitive feelings among some in the locker room. AJ Lee recently made her comeback to the company after being away for approximately a decade.

‘That Could Be My Headline’

Perry expressed her genuine enthusiasm for the moment, stating that she was “so excited” when AJ Lee returned, calling it a “big moment after 10 years”. Perry noted how much attention the return received. “She’s going viral all over the place. Kids are dressing up, men are dressing up as her. It’s just amazing,” Perry said.

However, Perry explained that wrestlers in the locker room often view these big moments through a competitive lens, where a veteran’s return can be seen as taking away opportunities. “But I think that if you’re in the locker room, you’re like, oh, that’s could be my spot, or that could be my headline, and it’s not just the girls, it’s the guys,” Perry explained.

She stated that due to the limited number of top positions in the company, a competitive drive is normal. “There’s only so many spots, and this is a competition, and people should feel that competitive nature to get that spot,” Perry noted.
