CJ Perry said she cried when Rusev’s Intercontinental Championship ladder match at WrestleMania was announced and that Rusev is “a little nervous” and can’t believe the honor, speaking on TMZ Inside the Ring.
“I cried. I literally, when I saw the match, the card come out, I started crying, because I’m so happy for him. He loves wrestling so much,” CJ Perry said.
Perry said Rusev is excited but processing the moment. “Rusev is really excited. He’s a little nervous. He can’t actually believe it. He’s like, ‘I can’t believe I’m in a ladder match at WrestleMania,’ like the honor,” she said.
Perry said Rusev is currently in Bulgaria helping his father with a hip replacement but will be training there and plans to be back in a week. Co-host Branson Quirk compared Rusev’s training to Rocky, joking that he would be out in the wilderness breaking wood and running hills.
Chris Van Vliet, who was a guest on the episode, noted that this is the first Intercontinental Championship ladder match at WrestleMania in 10 years, going back to the 2016 match that Zack Ryder won.
The WrestleMania 42 Intercontinental Championship ladder match features Penta defending against Dragon Lee, JD McDonagh, Je’Von Evans, and Rusev. Perry said she is especially excited because Je’Von Evans is going to “do something crazy” in the match and that Evans is “very bouncy.”
