“No More Politics”
During a recent appearance on TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast, CJ Perry (formerly known as Lana) shared a story about a past meeting with Donald Trump involving her real-life husband, Miro (Rusev). Perry revealed that after Trump assumed the presidency, he offered specific advice regarding their on-screen characters and the integration of political themes in wrestling.
“Once Trump became president he sat me and Miro down,” Perry said. “He’s like ok no more politics. He’s like it’s too polarizing and controversial.”
Context of the Advice
Perry’s comments likely refer to the couple’s tenure in WWE during Trump’s first term, which began in 2017. At the time, Miro (performing as Rusev) and Perry (as Lana) had previously portrayed high-profile anti-American characters that heavily utilized political imagery, including praise for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump’s advice suggests a shift away from such divisive content once he took office, citing the polarizing nature of political storylines in entertainment.
Rusev’s Return and Legends Deal
The interview also touched on other major topics regarding the couple’s career. Perry discussed her current status, revealing she is on a “Legends deal” with WWE. Additionally, the conversation covered “Rusev’s big WWE return,” signaling a new chapter for Miro in the company after his time in AEW. Perry also opened up about her new podcast, Identity Crisis, and how she and Miro have rebuilt their marriage.
