Peyton Royce: why she loved Eddie Guerrero, training with Lance Storm, Billie Kay, how she met husband Shawn Spears

WWE Superstar and one-half The IIconics, Peyton Royce, was interviewed, this week by Chris Van Vliet for his YouTube channel.

A lot was discussed including her friendship with Billie Kay, how she met her husband Shawn Spears (he makes an appearance), dream matches, Aussie slang words and much more.

Here are some highlights:

Peyton Royce is starting her own YouTube show: “I just want to get out there and do some things as Cassie. I’m not going to be Peyton forever, as much as I would love to, so I want the world to be introduced to Cassie as well. I want it to be a variety. I will have my husband and best friend on it. I have a lot of ideas for it. I’m excited and the response to it has been overwhelming. I’m so thankful.”

Who is it when you’re growing up that you say, I can be like that person? “Eddie Guerrero was my absolute favorite, my inspiration. I mourned his death like he was my family. I really struggled with that. I was young when he passed. He was the one who made me realize this was my dream. I was a fan for a few years before I realized this is what I want to do with my life. This is actually my dream. It was because of him. I was vocal about my dream and got bullied because of it because people thought I was insane.”

Chris said, “You ended up training with Lance Storm. That’s a huge step. You could train anywhere and you went to, quite possible the furthest place away that you can train.” Peyton responded: “Yea, I did but I knew that was a really important move in my journey to get to the WWE. A lot of people in Australia had taken Lance’s course and I heard nothing but good things about it. I decided that’s what I wanted to do. I wanted to take that step. That’s literally the best thing I could have done for my career. My 3 months with Lance was so incredibly beneficial for so many reasons and I’m so grateful that I got to go while he was still open.”

Peyton talked about being friends with Billie Kay in high school: “So Billie was 4 years ahead of me. When I started high school Billie was a senior. I was super intimidated by her because she is this pretty athletic girl. Honestly, I don’t even know how we knew we were both wrestling fans. We were the only 2 wrestling fans in high school and it turned into who was the bigger fan”

Chris asked, “With Eddie Guerrero not here, who’s the one person you would lose it if you met them?” Petyon said: “I don’t’ think there is someone. The first time I saw Shawn Michaels backstage, I was very taken back and thought, it’s Shawn Michaels”

What goals do you have in WWE: “Growing up, I always dreamed of being a Women’s Champion one day, so that is still up there and one of my goals. Pioneering the women’s tag division was the number one goal on my list, absolutely had to be a part of making that happen so it’s incredible we got to do that. I want to be on top. I want to be fulfilled. I just want to wrestle so bad. I want to be out there and do what I love to do. If I can do that at a top level week after week, be a champion at some point obviously way down the line I’m looking for the Hall of Fame deal.

What is your favorite Shawn Spear match: “I would have to say him and Cody. That was just so incredible. I had chills. That was actually in the middle of our honeymoon. We were on our honeymoon and smack bang in the middle of it was the show. So we flew from Hawaii to Chicago and then back to Hawaii. I was so happy for him and proud of him.”

When Shawn left for AEW, were you worried this might affect the situation you have: “No, that was never a thought for me. I wanted him to be happy. I wanted him to be happy and I never thought of it like that. I just thought what was important to me was his happiness.”

Do you remember when you saw Shawn backstage and thought, yea, this could be a thing, me and this guy?: “Yes, pretty quickly. I was just drawn to him. Yea, straight away, I just thought he was so attractive. I looked up to him because he was so good and so anytime we go extra training in the ring and I knew he was going to be taking training, I was like, I have to be in that session.
