Plans For WWE SummerSlam – Night 2 Main Event Being “Kept Very Close To The Vest”

With just hours to go until the main event of SummerSlam Night Two, a new report has revealed that the plans for the Undisputed WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and John Cena are being kept a closely guarded secret, even from many within the company.

SummerSlam Main Event Plans ‘Kept Very Close To The Vest’

According to a report from Fightful Select, the result and general plans for tonight’s main event are being “kept very close to the vest,” with a number of writers and producers having not been clued into the creative direction “by design.” The report also notes that as of Sunday, WWE staff had not been informed of any potential involvement from The Rock, though the company has been better about keeping major surprises quiet recently.

An Unpredictable Road To The Main Event

The secrecy surrounding the match adds to an already unpredictable storyline. On this past Friday’s episode of SmackDown, John Cena had an “abrupt face turn,” seemingly reverting to his babyface persona after five months as a heel. This segment also marked the first time the company vaguely addressed the long-term absences of The Rock and Travis Scott, who were instrumental in Cena’s original heel turn at Elimination Chamber.

The highly secretive main event will cap off a stacked second night of SummerSlam from MetLife Stadium. The card for tonight will also feature several other major title matches, including Naomi defending the Women’s World Championship in a triple threat match against Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY, Dominik Mysterio defending the Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles, and Solo Sikoa defending the United States Championship against Jacob Fatu in a steel cage.
