A positive update has emerged regarding the status of Jade Cargill, who suffered a gruesome cut to her forehead during the main event of last week’s Friday Night SmackDown. According to a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider Elite, the word making the rounds at this past Monday’s Raw taping was that Cargill only required stitches to close the wound and did not need plastic surgery, which is good news given the severity of the gash.
The report also notes that the hope internally is that Cargill could be medically cleared to return to in-ring action within a few weeks and that there is currently no sign that she has been pulled from the road. The injury occurred during a chaotic triple-threat match for the WWE Women’s Championship, which saw the champion, Tiffany Stratton, defend her title against both Jade Cargill and Nia Jax.
In a spot on the outside of the ring, Cargill delivered a Samoan drop to Nia Jax onto the steel ring steps. The impact of the move caused Cargill’s head to strike the steps as well, resulting in a deep and bloody cut above her eye. After the show, Cargill shared graphic images of the injury on her Instagram account, which showed the gash before and after it was stitched up, highlighting just how nasty the wound was. Cargill was ultimately unsuccessful in her championship bid, as Tiffany Stratton was able to retain her title.
Since making her highly anticipated debut in the 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble match, Jade Cargill has been positioned as a major star on the SmackDown brand. After a dominant run in AEW, where she was the inaugural TBS Champion, she signed with WWE in 2023. Her initial run with the company saw her form an alliance with Bianca Belair, which led to a reign as the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. After being written off television with a storyline injury, she returned to take part in a personal feud with her former partner, Naomi, which culminated in a victory for Cargill at WrestleMania 41.
Cargill’s momentum continued to build as she won the 2025 Queen of the Ring tournament, earning her a shot at the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam, a match she ultimately lost to Tiffany Stratton. We wish her a speedy recovery.
@wrestlingnewsco Mark Henry compared Jade Cargill to Trish Stratus and Charlotte Flair. Is he RIGHT or WRONG?! #wwe #prowrestling #smackdown
