Je’Von Evans suffered an injury scare during the January 19 episode of Monday Night Raw at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. His match against El Grande Americano ended abruptly during a commercial break, leading to speculation regarding his condition.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the stoppage was caused by an accidental headbutt rather than a shoulder or chest issue as initially believed. Bryan Alvarez detailed the specific spot that led to the injury.
“They were doing some complicated spots,” Alvarez said. “At one point, they’re in the corner and I think Je’Von got backdropped onto the apron. And I think both guys thought the other guy was supposed to headbutt the other guy in the gut and so they both at the same time ducked—and they like headbutted each other like rams on accident.”
Dave Meltzer confirmed the nature of the collision, stating, “Yeah, it was clearly an accidental spot.” Alvarez noted that Evans appeared to take the brunt of the impact. “Je’Von got the worst of it because he got clonked, and he just kind of stopped for a second and was like, ‘Whoa.’ But it’s possible that during the break, maybe he was forgetting stuff or asking the ref something, and that’s when it was called off.”
Meltzer explained the likely procedure that led to the match being stopped. “Usually when something like that happens during the break, it’s someone watching from the back going, ‘He’s not looking good—stop the match.’”
Despite concerns of a concussion, reports indicate that Evans avoided serious injury. Alvarez shared an update on his status following the show. “They checked him out and cleared him to fly, so apparently it wasn’t a concussion. Hopefully, he’ll be back quickly.”
Evans, who was officially called up to the Raw roster earlier this month, had been building momentum toward his first Premium Live Event appearance. It remains to be seen if this incident will impact his status for the Royal Rumble event.
