WWE Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer is reportedly working through a legitimate injury, though the situation is not as dire as it appears on television. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the injury to the champion is real but considered “minor,” with the on-screen presentation exaggerating the severity for storyline purposes.
Meltzer stated, “Yeah, they were supposed to have a match in a week or two. I don’t know if she’s going to be ready by then, so we’ll see. I mean, obviously, they’re having a match as soon as she’s ready.”
“She has a legitimate injury, but it’s a minor injury, it’s not as big an injury as they’re playing up,” Meltzer reported. The injury has become a central plot point in her ongoing rivalry with Raquel Rodriguez, who has ruthlessly targeted Vaquer’s leg in recent weeks.
Meltzer noted that while a match between the two was tentatively planned for the immediate future, the timeline might shift slightly depending on her clearance. “I know that they (Raquel Rodriguez & Stephanie Vaquer) were supposed to do a match on TV in the next two weeks. I didn’t get the date, but I don’t know if it’s going to be quite as soon,” Meltzer said. “But I heard she was going to be cleared pretty quick, so it’s a minor injury, but it’s a real injury.”
The storyline continued to escalate on this week’s episode of Raw from Germany. As Vaquer made her entrance, Rodriguez attacked her from behind for the second consecutive week. Rodriguez utilized the Women’s World Championship belt itself to inflict further damage on Vaquer’s already injured leg before leaving the scene.
Rodriguez has been chasing a singles opportunity since the December 29 episode of Raw, where she was defeated by Vaquer in a Triple Threat match that also included Nikki Bella.
