WWE SmackDown Superstars Roman Reigns and Elias are being advertised to work a Handicap Match for the June 17 Raw TV event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. This could turn out to be a WWE Wild Card Rule spoiler.
As seen on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in Cincinnati, OH at the US Bank Arena on the USA Network, WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon announced a “wild card” rule where three members of Raw and Smackdown can appear on the other brand. This would later change to four members appearing on each show.
Reigns vs. Elias and Shane McMahon in a 1-on-2 Handicap Match is advertised for that show. Also advertised that will likely be another dark match is AJ Styles vs. Drew McIntyre and Baron Corbin vs. WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins.
As of this writing, the WWE website is still advertising Reigns for a SmackDown live event on the same night in Palm Springs, CA but the company will likely update that advertisement.
This is an important episode of the red brand as it marks the final episode before the WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event on June 23 from Tacoma, WA.
As noted, the reason for the introduction for the rule is due to NBCUniversal (USA Network) and Fox wanting more star power on Raw and SmackDown Live as a result of declining viewership for the shows.
