Priscilla Kelly, formerly known as Gigi Dolin in NXT, has taken to her YouTube vlog to address recent reports regarding her mental health. The former Toxic Attraction member previously shared that she suffered from depression during her time with WWE and even considered taking her own life. However, she believes those comments have been blown out of proportion and wants to shut down the narrative that she suffers from chronic depression.
“I really hate when I do these interviews, which I rarely do in the first place because people love to just take clickbait titles and twist what I say and blow it out of proportion,” Kelly said. “Always been very open with um mental health struggles, my real life, my childhood, my struggles with my parents, my everything in my life. You know, I’m very open about it because there might be somebody somewhere that needs someone to relate to or I might help somebody out there. Not everybody is so open to talking about the not-so-pretty side of wrestling and real-life stuff. So, I like to be that person that’s real, honest, and open. I would have gave anything for somebody like me to look up to when I was young and going through stuff.”
Kelly clarified that the dark period she experienced was specific to a certain time and set of circumstances within NXT. She stated that while she faced difficulties, they were not indicative of a permanent state of mind or a reflection of her current well-being.
“I talked about a small period of time in NXT where I went through depression, and I was suicidal because uh of some really like shitty things going on behind the scenes, and that was nothing to do with any of the coaches or WWE itself,” Kelly said. “It was more certain people that was just a small fragment of my time in NXT and a small fragment of my life, and people are acting like I have permanent health issues, I have permanent mental health issues or I’m constantly in a suicidal depressed state, that’s not true, like I went through a down period.”
The 28-year-old wrestler emphasized that experiencing low points is a normal part of the human experience. She rejected the idea that her past struggles define her entire existence, noting that she is currently in a very positive place in her life.
“I think it’s stupid to pretend that everyone’s perfect and nobody’s been through something,” Kelly said. “People that are saying like, ‘Oh, like you struggle with depression and you struggle with mental health issues.’ No, I don’t. Like I’m a normal person that has been through some stuff. And not that there’s anything wrong with having mental health issues, but like I think we got to stop taking this person had a down point in their life and turning it into, oh, this person has chronic depression, chronic mental thoughts. That’s not true. Like, I’m happy now. Everything’s great. And, you know, I think life comes in waves.”
