CM Punk Defends Jey Uso Against Online Criticism: ‘Jey Uso Is F**king Phenomenal’

CM Punk recently shared his support for Jey Uso while addressing the persistent online criticism directed at his colleague. Speaking in a sit-down chat with David LaGreca of Busted Open, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion touched on why he believes the backlash against the “Main Event” star is disconnected from reality.

Punk revealed that on any given night, he is in a three-way battle with John Cena and Jey for the top spot in merchandise sales. He added that while people online have a lot to say about Jey, the reactions that Uso receives in arenas across the country say otherwise.

“I use Jey Uso as the number one shining example,” Punk said. “I’m battling with John Cena and Jey Uso as who sells more t-shirts on any given night. Everybody’s going crazy for his music. They’re yeeting. They want him to run it back. This dude can go out on TV for 10 minutes and just yeet. But then, if you went on the internet, ‘Oh, he’s the worst wrestler alive.’ Is he? Or are you just extremely hyperbolic? Everything nowadays is, ‘This is the best thing ever. This is the worst thing ever. I don’t like it so you have to not like it too.’ Like what you like, champion that. I try to stay away from the negativity. Jey Uso is f**king phenomenal. He is. 100 percent. We just live these lives that are so public that everybody wants to point fingers and laugh if we slip on a banana peel or make a mistake.”

Jey Uso is currently enjoying a successful period as one-half of the World Tag Team Champions. Alongside his brother Jimmy, The Usos defeated AJ Styles and Dragon Lee on the December 29, 2025, episode of Raw in Orlando, Florida, to begin their fourth reign as a team. During the January 5, 2026, episode of Raw in Brooklyn, New York, the champions issued a bold warning to the rest of the tag team division, welcoming them to “The Uso Penitentiary.” This success follows Jey’s historic first singles title win when he captured the Intercontinental Championship in September 2024.

While Jey dominates the tag team ranks, CM Punk successfully defended his World Heavyweight Title against Bron Breakker in the main event of the January 5 Monday Night Raw on Netflix. The show was a themed “Stranger Things” anniversary event held at the Barclays Center, marking one year since the promotion moved to the streaming platform. Punk originally won the vacant title by defeating Jey Uso at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 1, 2025.
