Monday Night Raw ended in chaos as Roman Reigns made his shocking return to WWE television for the first time in three months. His return came at the conclusion of a grueling number one contender’s gauntlet match that also set a new World Heavyweight Championship match for SummerSlam.
CM Punk Earns World Title Shot
The main event of Raw featured a five-man gauntlet match to determine who would challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. Bron Breakker was the star of the match, defeating Penta El Zero Miedo, LA Knight, and Jey Uso in succession. His victories were not without help, as his new stablemate Bronson Reed interfered in the match against Jey Uso.
In the final stage of the gauntlet, Breakker faced CM Punk. Despite being exhausted after wrestling for 35 minutes, Breakker put up a strong fight. However, after Jey Uso returned to neutralize another interference attempt from Bronson Reed, Punk was able to hit the GTS on Breakker for the pinfall victory. With the win, CM Punk has now officially earned a World Heavyweight Championship match against Gunther at SummerSlam.
Roman Reigns Returns
As CM Punk celebrated his victory, he was attacked by a furious Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker. Jey Uso attempted to make the save but was also taken down by the two powerhouse superstars. As Reed was setting up Punk and Uso for a double Tsunami splash, Roman Reigns’ music hit to a massive ovation from the crowd.
Reigns returned after a three-month absence and single-handedly cleared the ring, hitting a Samoan drop on Reed and a Superman punch on Breakker before spearing Reed. He then helped Jey Uso to his feet as the crowd loudly chanted “OTC.” The show ended with Reigns staring down the remaining members of Seth Rollins’ faction on the stage.
