CM Punk powerbombed Roman Reigns through the announce table to close Monday’s Raw at Madison Square Garden in the latest physical confrontation between the two men ahead of their World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania 42.
Reigns came to the ring and asked New York to acknowledge him. Punk’s music interrupted and he came to the ring ready for a fight. The two immediately exchanged punches. Punk hit punches and Reigns responded with a flying body block. Punk sent Reigns over the top rope to the floor and into the announce table.
Officials came out as Punk sent Reigns into the ring post. Punk pulled the hood off the announce table. Reigns punched Punk and set for a powerbomb but went after the officials instead. Officials stopped Reigns from powerbombing Punk and then stopped Punk from delivering a GTS.
Reigns went for a spear but missed Punk and hit referee Petey Williams. Punk hit Reigns with a GTS. Punk surveyed the situation and told the crowd he is okay before punching Reigns again. Punk then powerbombed Reigns through the announce table.
Punk sat down next to Reigns and serenaded him while continuing to punch him. Raw went off the air with Punk standing over Reigns.
The closing brawl followed a week in which Reigns speared Punk and powerbombed him through the announce table to close last week’s Raw. Punk responded in kind on Monday, evening the score heading into WrestleMania.
Punk defends the World Heavyweight Championship against Reigns on Night 2 of WrestleMania 42 on Sunday, April 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
