CM Punk Was ‘Really Depressed’ About Missing Two WWE Events In 2024

As he approaches the second anniversary of his return to WWE, CM Punk has been reflecting on his journey back to the company, the lessons he’s learned about himself, and his excitement for the future.

‘Everything Now Is Just Extra Credit’

In a chat with Wide World of Sports, Punk was asked about the biggest lesson he’s learned since coming back. He noted that he’s tougher than he thought and that his definition of legacy has evolved to be about making those around him better. He described his current run in a positive light.

“Everything now is just extra credit,” Punk said. “I think I had a pretty good career so far but that doesn’t mean I need to hang it up, when I’m legitimately, every day, having the time of my life, looking forward to going to work and working with everybody in front of and behind the camera.”

Looking Forward To International ‘Do-Overs’

Punk also spoke about the disappointment of missing major international events like Elimination Chamber in Perth and Backlash in France in 2024 due to his triceps injury, admitting he was “really depressed” about it. He now views the upcoming international PLEs, Crown Jewel in Perth and Clash in Paris, as “do-overs.”

“I was excited to go to Australia, and now, we’re looking down the barrel of it again in October. I get to do that,” he said. “I missed out on Paris last time too — France — and we’re doing that coming up too so, knock on wood… You will see me in Australia and I cannot wait.”

Before Punk gets his international “do-overs,” his focus is on capturing a world championship for the first time since his return. He is scheduled to challenge GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship at the two-night SummerSlam premium live event on August 2nd and 3rd.
