With the new “WWE: Unreal” docuseries on Netflix giving fans an unprecedented look behind the curtain, many are once again asking the age-old question: is kayfabe dead? According to CM Punk, the answer is no.
‘The Real Magicians Will Always Find A Way’
Speaking on the “Effective Immediately” podcast, Punk was asked if the new docuseries marks the definitive death of kayfabe. He argued that the concept has been “dead” for decades, but true performers will always be able to captivate an audience.
“No. You can make a claim it was dead in the 50s and 60s. If you know your wrestling history, in a way, it’s always been dead,” Punk said. “The true workers, the real magicians, will always find a way to hook people and make people believe. That’s our job.”
‘I’m The Master. I Will Get You.’
Punk stated that regardless of what fans see behind the scenes, he is confident in his ability to make them believe when he is in the ring. “I don’t care what people see or don’t see on Netflix. I’m the master. I will get you. I will figure it out and I will get you,” he declared.
Punk is prominently featured in the “WWE: Unreal” series, which covers his journey from his return at Survivor Series 2023 to his main event match at WrestleMania 41. Fans will get to see his philosophy on performance in action this weekend, as he challenges GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship at the SummerSlam premium live event.
