Randy Orton’s injury may not be legitimate

As noted last night, it looked like Randy Orton suffered a knee injury during his match with AJ Styles when he attempted to hit the RKO. Fans in Hershey, PA who watched the match say he landed awkwardly on his knee and the match was stopped when the referee did the “X” gesture.

The timing of the injury would be horrible for Orton since The Royal Rumble and WrestleMania are right around the corner.

It turns out that he may be fine after all. Dave Meltzer noted on the Wrestling Observer website message board that he heard that the injury is storyline and not legitimate.

The way things played out last night, it came across as if Orton would be out of action for some time. So, if the injury is indeed just a storyline, then it would appear that WWE just needs an excuse to get him off TV for a little while. With the Royal Rumble coming up next month, one could speculate that perhaps WWE wants Orton to return as a surprise entrant. We’ll see if that is the case.

We’ll pass along more information later today when we get it. Click here to see the footage of Orton after he was “injured” last night.
