Randy Savage’s Three-Legged Rescue Cat JYC, Named After Junkyard Dog, Is Still Alive And Being Cared For By His Family

Randy Savage’s three-legged rescue cat, JYC, is still alive and being cared for by Randy’s family, according to a post by @BookProWrestler on X.

JYC stands for Junkyard Cat, named after Savage’s longtime friend Junkyard Dog. Savage rescued the cat from a junkyard after noticing it only had three legs. The story was first made public in May 2016 by Savage’s brother Lanny Poffo, who wrote on Facebook: “Randy rescued a one-armed kitty about six months before he died. His wife still owns the cat who was named JYC, in honor of his fallen friend, JYD (Junkyard Dog).”

Savage passed away on May 20, 2011 at the age of 58 after suffering a heart attack while driving near his home in Florida. His wife, who was in the passenger seat, survived the crash.

In September 2025, the Machoverse Instagram account shared an update and a recent photo of JYC provided by Savage’s estate, confirming the cat was still alive and healthy. The latest post from @BookProWrestler confirms JYC is still alive in 2026, now being cared for by Randy’s family. Based on Poffo’s account that Savage rescued the cat about six months before his death in 2011, JYC would be approximately 15 to 16 years old.
