WWE Champion Bobby Lashley has made it well known through various interviews that he wants a match with Brock Lesnar due to their MMA and wrestling backgrounds.
While at one point, WWE did plan on having the former Universal Champion appear at this year’s SummerSlam, those plans were nixed and it’s been denied countless times that WWE wasn’t going to do a match between Lashley and Lesnar at the show.
It was reported on Thursday that Lashley will have a different opponent at SummerSlam and it’s not Lesnar.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “the feeling was that Lesnar isn’t coming back for a number of shows right now, so he’d have to lose.”
WWE still wants to have a match with Lesnar and Universal Champion Roman Reigns as they have history as well as Paul Heyman now being paired with Reigns.
It was said the Reigns camp thinks Reigns vs. Lesnar is a big program and it shouldn’t be weakend by Lesnar either losing or doing a non-finish for a match with Lashley right now. There’s still no word yet on when WWE will do Lesnar vs. Reigns, but it’s expected to be saved for a future WrestleMania event.
