Some fans were surprised by Charlotte Flair beating Rhea Ripley for the WWE NXT Women's Title at WrestleMania 36 - Night 2 in Orlando, Florida at the WWE Performance Center on the WWE Network.

News regarding the booking decision of this contest has surfaced online.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Flair beat Ripley because WWE wants Flair to appear on NXT television regularly in order to help boost the ratings as the Wednesday Night War continues with AEW.

Flair winning the title on Sunday night marked the second time that she has held the NXT Women's Championship.

Flair being on NXT TV going forward is part of WWE’s strategy to help close the gap in the ratings against AEW Dynamite.

As of this writing, there’s no word yet on whether Flair will be working NXT live events once WWE starts running house shows again. For now, Flair working double duty won’t be as tough due to WWE only holding TV tapings.
